**Czechia and Poland Prepare Decision on Status of Ukrainians with Temporary Protection**
The Czech government, along with the Polish presidency of the EU Council, is working on a decision about what will happen to Ukrainians who have temporary protection in Europe after a ceasefire or the end of the war. This was announced by Czech Interior Minister Vit Rakusan.
Temporary protection was introduced by the EU last year for over 4 million Ukrainian refugees. If a ceasefire or the end of the war is declared, people from Ukraine will no longer be automatically granted temporary status. However, they can still stay in the country for a certain period, which could be one to one and a half years.
To continue living in Czechia, Ukrainians must re-register under a different status, just like other foreigners. This means they would have to meet certain requirements to stay in the country.
**EU Plans Special Centers for Returning Ukrainians**
The EU also wants to set up special centers to help people from Ukraine who want to return home. These centers would provide assistance with work, accommodation, and other support. The idea is already being discussed in Germany, Poland, and Austria. Czechia will also establish one of these centers.
Rakusan said that the goal of the centers is to facilitate the return of Ukrainians to their homes while also helping those who decide to stay in Europe to relocate to another country.
**Czechia Hosts a Large Number of Ukrainian Refugees**
Czechia has hosted over 390,000 people from Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion. This makes it one of the European countries with the largest number of Ukrainian refugees.
