Serbia’s police were cleared by the country’s outgoing Internal Affairs Minister, Ivica Dacic. He said they did nothing wrong during a big gathering in Belgrade on Saturday.
Dacic denied “false news” that the police used bad tactics. He said they only defended themselves when people attacked them. He added that the police didn’t use batons or other bad methods.
The minister asked police commanders to write statements about what happened. These will be made public so everyone can see if what was reported was true or not. The communication records from the police command system are also available for people to check.
Dacic’s statement came after some news reports caused worry among the public. He said he wanted to set the record straight and clear up any misunderstandings.
