On October 1st, Russian forces launched an attack on downtown Kherson, resulting in the death of at least six people and injuring six others, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Authorities reported that a local market and a public transport stop were hit by shelling during the attack.
The attack occurred at approximately 9 a.m., coinciding with a nationwide minute of silence in Ukraine to honor the fallen Ukrainian soldiers on Defenders Day, as stated by the National Police.
In a post on Telegram, Zelensky condemned the “daily Russian terror” and called for an end to the destruction of lives.
The Prosecutor General’s Office confirmed that a seventh victim, who was initially reported as killed, was in fact stabilized by doctors. However, the individual remains in critical condition.
Kherson was liberated from Russian occupation in November 2022, but since then, the city and surrounding areas along the western bank of the Dnipro River have been regularly targeted by Russian troops.
