**Education Minister Threatens Academic Community**
A crisis is unfolding at the University of Belgrade. The faculty blockades, which started several weeks ago, have caused a deadlock in the academic community.
The Education Minister, Slavica Djukic Dejanovic, has set an April 15 deadline for the faculties to resume operations or risk missing out on the upcoming academic year. However, Dean Voja Radovanovic disagrees with this approach.
**No Final Deadline**
Radovanovic explained that the start of classes depends on fulfilling students‘ demands, and this situation varies from faculty to faculty under the Law on Higher Education. He believes that the minister’s threats are not an effective way to resolve the complicated situation.
“We will not succumb to pressure,” Radovanovic said. “We consider it immoral and ineffective to initiate disciplinary actions against professors and students participating in the blockades.”
**No Disciplinary Actions**
Radovanovic stated that he and his colleagues will not take disciplinary action against students or their colleagues who are participating in the blockades. He believes this is a unanimous stance among the academic community.
However, Education Minister Djukic Dejanovic maintains that April 15 is the last chance for the faculties to resume operations and “save the academic year.” She warned that discussing making up classes and exams after this date would be pointless.
