Russian Troops Expand Control in Donetsk Oblast
Russian forces have taken control of four new settlements in the Donetsk Oblast, a region in eastern Ukraine. The areas occupied are Novopustynka, Stari Terny, Illinka, and Novodmytrivka.
According to an analytical project called DeepState, Russian troops have gained more ground in this strategic area. This is part of a larger push by Russian forces to control key territories in Donetsk Oblast.
The situation in the towns of Pokrovsk and Kurakhove has become increasingly dire. There have been many battles between Ukrainian and Russian forces in these areas since early December.
Ukraine’s General Staff reported that there were 170 combat encounters in this period. Russian troops launched 37 attacks on the Pokrovsk axis, trying to break through Ukrainian defenses. In another area called Vremivskyi, Russian forces made 35 separate attack attempts.
In addition to occupying new settlements, Russian forces have also advanced in other areas, including Kurakhove and nearby villages. The city’s eastern residential districts have been infiltrated by Russian troops, putting its industrial zone at risk.
