The commander-in chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces announced new measures for strengthening defenses in response to Russian advances in eastern Ukraine.
The Ukrainian analytical group DeepState reported that on 14 October, Russian occupying troops advanced near several settlements within the Donetsk Oblast of Ukraine and the Kursk Oblast of Russia.
In an effort to gain territory before winter, Russia has increased its advance on the Ukrainian frontline. This offensive push could also “improve Russia’s” negotiating position at future peace talks.
Vladimir Putin, Russian President, said that Russian terms for ceasefire negotiations demand a defacto capitulation by Ukraine on 14 June 2024. Russia demands that Ukraine renounce all of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts as well as Crimea. Russia has occupied these oblasts since 2014.
Analysts claim that Russian forces are making progress near Olhivka, Kremyane and the Kursk Oblast.
On 6 August, Ukrainian forces began their offensive in Russia’s Kursk Oblast. It is reportedly intended to destabilize Russian defences by forcing them divert resources from critical fronts in Ukraine such as Donetsk Oblast.
DeepState reported on 14th October that Russia advanced in Donetsk Oblast near Kalynivka and Chasiv Yar in Donetsk Oblast.
The Ukrainian forces confirmed on 2 October that they had withdrawn from Vuhledar.
Vuhledar is a strategic city in Ukraine’s Donetsk Oblast with a population of 14,000 before the war. The Russian troops are interested in using it for offensives and further advances.
The Khortytsia unit of the military reported on 2 Oct that Ukrainian units had left Vuhledar in Donetsk Oblast after Russian forces entered on 1 October.
Andriy Kvalenko, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation in the National Security and Defense Council said that Ukrainian defenders had stopped the active Russian offensive in the Donetsk Oblast near Pokrovsk.
Since October 2023, Pokrovsk is the focal point of intense fighting involving Russian and Ukrainian forces. Russia launched major offensives in order to capture Avdiivka, a nearby city, and expand its control over western Donetsk Oblast.
Pokrovsk’s population has decreased significantly. Only 13,050 people remain, compared to 48,000 residents just six weeks earlier.
The Institute for the Study of War reported on the 3rd October that Russian troops have recently made some progress east and southeast of Pokrovsk, and near Svatove & Siversk.
Southern Defense Forces reported that Russian forces were preparing to launch an assault in Zaporizhzhia, aiming to seize control of the entire Donetsk Oblast.
On 3 October, Oleksandr Sryskyi, the Commander-in Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, announced, reportedly, in the direction of Pokrovsk, decisions to strengthen the defense in Pokrovsk.
British Intelligence reported that on 5 October, the Zaporizhzia Front might be under increased pressure following Russian troops capturing Vuhledar.
British intelligence identified two possible targets for a Russian offensive: Velyka Novosilka in Zaporizhzhia Oblast to the west and Bohoiavlenka 8 kilometers (5 miles) to north. This move would enhance Russian logistics in the region.
