According to the revised definition, technical or expert assistance, knowledge sharing, and other similar contributions will be considered as grants. **Changes in Grant Implementation**
A key amendment has been proposed by MP Tornike Cheishvili, which will allow grants implemented under the European Union’s Horizon Europe research program and Erasmus+ program to no longer require government consent. This means that organizations participating in these programs will have more flexibility when it comes to receiving and using grant funds.
**Grant Usage Areas Expanded**
The proposed changes also cover areas such as humanitarian assistance, defense, and security. MP Cheishvili stated that the revised law will clarify which entities can issue grants, including international organizations. This clarification aims to prevent misunderstandings and ensure transparency in the grant-issuing process.
**Parliamentary Hearing Scheduled**
The Georgian Parliament is set to review the proposed amendments to the Law on Grants during its first hearing. The changes aim to provide clarity on various aspects of grant implementation, ensuring that grants are issued and received in accordance with the law.
**Previous Laws on Grant Issuance**
It’s worth noting that previous laws have required government approval for grant issuance, and unauthorized grants were prohibited. The Anti–Corruption Bureau has been tasked with monitoring these activities to prevent any potential misuse of funds.
