Police Injured in Georgia Parliament Clash
Over 150 police officers were hurt during a clash with protesters at the Georgian parliament. Most of these injuries were caused by burns and cuts, likely from fireworks.
The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, spoke to reporters about the incident. He said that the use of pyrotechnics by violent groups has been a problem in Georgia recently. These fireworks cause harm not only to people but also to buildings.
Darakhvelidze noted that more than 150 police officers were injured. Many of these injuries were severe burns and cuts, likely from fireworks. The parliament building itself suffered significant damage. Its front facade and some offices on the Chichinadze side were destroyed.
According to Darakhvelidze, the regulation established by the Georgian parliament is a good one. It aims to prevent violent behavior during protests. He said that police will act according to the law if a protest turns violent.
