**Germany’s Government Collapse Sparks Concern Over Ukraine Arms Supplies**
Germany’s ruling coalition has collapsed, leaving concerns over potential delays in arms supplies to Ukraine. The “traffic light” coalition government, made up of the Social Democratic Party, the Free Democratic Party, and Alliance 90/The Greens, has been dissolved after Chancellor Olaf Scholz dismissed Finance Minister Christian Lindner.
**Delays in Arms Supplies Possible**
Experts note that while Germany’s current plans to support Ukraine are unlikely to be affected, any potential increase in aid may be delayed. The German government had planned to allocate an additional €3 billion for military support to Ukraine, but the budget for these expenditures is now depleted. This year alone, Germany has provided Ukraine with €8 billion worth of weapons.
**Ukraine Pushes for Quick Decisions**
Ukrainian Ambassador Oleksii Makeiev has urged Germany to make decisions on further arms deliveries quickly. He wants assurances that planned orders and funding for additional aid will be made in 2024 or early next year. Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock is also advocating for continued arms deliveries, including the supply of 812 reconnaissance drones worth €153 million.
**Delayed Financing May Require Approval**
If financing is delayed until 2025 as part of extraordinary expenditures, approval from the budget committee will be required. However, the request for these drones has yet to be formally submitted to the finance department. The collapse of Germany’s ruling coalition has raised concerns over potential delays in arms supplies to Ukraine.
