**Commander of Ukrainian Brigade Detained**
The commander of Ukraine’s 155th “Anne of Kyiv” Brigade has been detained. He is accused of not reporting violations in his unit, including soldiers going AWOL (absent without leave).
**Investigation into the Brigade**
The brigade was set up with the help of foreign partners, including France and Germany. The French President had announced that France would provide training and military supplies for the unit. However, an investigation led by a Ukrainian journalist found that many soldiers were suffering losses and going AWOL due to poor command and organization within Ukraine’s military leadership.
**Commander Accused**
The commander of the brigade is accused of failing to report these violations. He is also accused of not performing his official duties properly. If found guilty, he could face up to 10 years in prison.
**Background on the Brigade**
The 155th Brigade has about 5,800 troops. Only around 2,000 have undergone training in France. The unit is armed with French and German military equipment, including armored vehicles and tanks. However, an investigation found that many soldiers who were sent to France for training did not have enough military experience.
**Soldiers Going AWOL**
The investigation found that over 1,700 soldiers had gone AWOL between March and November of last year. Many of these soldiers had been deployed near the city of Pokrovsk. The commander is accused of not reporting this problem.
