Dmitry Peskov is the press spokesperson for the Russian President. According to him, Russia does not try to influence the elections in Moldova and Georgia and is unlikely to be able to do so.
“You know we are not at all trying, and I do not think we have an opportunity to influence development of the situation in those countries, the electoral processes,” Peskov replied when asked how the Kremlin will react to accusations that Russia tries to influence elections in Moldova and Georgia.
On October 20, Moldova held presidential elections and a referendum regarding European integration. After the Central Election Commission released preliminary results showing that more than 50% of Moldovans were against European Integration, President Maia Sandu declared an unprecedented attack against the country’s democracy and freedom.
According to him there was evidence that criminal groups attempted to bribe the voters and that there were between 150,000 and 300,000 votes.
