**Georgian Farmers See Income Growth with Modern Technologies and New Knowledge**
Farmers in Georgia, especially those living in highland regions, face many challenges. They often lack access to educational resources, farming equipment, and modern technologies. However, with the help of various donor-funded projects, many farmers have received new knowledge and financial support.
**Artificial Insemination Increases Productivity**
In recent years, artificial insemination has become popular among Georgian farmers. This technology allows them to plan the genetics of their animals, determine their productivity, sex, and appearance. Dairy farms prefer female cattle for breeding, while beef farms prefer males. Artificial insemination also helps prevent disease transfer from parents to calves.
**Veterinarians Play a Crucial Role**
Giorgi Varsimashvili is the only veterinarian in Pshav-Khevsureti. At 23 years old, he has been actively involved in artificial insemination and veterinary services for cattle, pigs, and dogs. With the help of a Caritas Czech Republic project, Giorgi received a grant to develop his small business.
**Modern Technology Saves Time and Energy**
Many Georgian farmers struggle with access to modern technology. Small family farms and newly established enterprises face this problem most acutely. However, some farmers have managed to purchase equipment that has simplified their work.
**Income Increased for Farmers**
As part of the two-year project ‘Cattle Farming in Georgia: Towards Increased Productivity, Competitiveness, and Sustainability,’ supported by the Czech Development Agency, Caritas Czech Republic helped Georgian farmers increase access to the local market. The project improved business development, sanitary and biosecurity standards, and linkages between clients and finance.
**Farmers’ Income Rose**
As a result of the project, the number of farmers following sustainable and more productive animal husbandry practices increased. Selected farmers had better access to the market, and their income was increased accordingly. Farmers were trained in artificial insemination, proper animal care, sustainable pasture management, feed production, and good cattle feeding practices.
**Czech Republic Supports Georgia**
The Caritas Czech Republic project is part of the Czech Republic’s large-scale Official Development Assistance towards Georgia. The initiative aimed to improve business development, sanitary and biosecurity standards, and linkages between clients and finance for Georgian farmers.
