North Korean Elite Troops Suffer Heavy Losses in Ukraine
A special unit of North Korea’s elite soldiers is fighting in Russia against Ukraine. However, they are not doing well.
These troops were sent to Russia by their government. The US said earlier that around 12,000 North Koreans are involved in the fight. South Korea‘s spy agency reported that over 100 of them have been killed and more than 1,000 injured.
The soldiers who died or got hurt belonged to a special unit called “Storm”. They were trained for specific tasks like urban combat and sneaking into other countries via sea, air, or land in North Korea. But they did not learn how to fight against drones or on flat open terrain like the one in Ukraine.
North Korean troops are usually trained to be good at precise missions like sniping. However, fighting on a big open field with drones is different. They also missed some of their training sessions because their government sent them to strengthen border security with China during the pandemic.
