Drones Target Russia’s Diagilevo Air Base
Multiple explosions were reported near the Diagilevo air base in Ryazan, Russia, on December 4. The base is home to critical military units and aircraft.
Local media outlets said drones targeted the base, with air defense systems being used to intercept them. Locals heard explosions around 4 am.
The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have destroyed 24 Ukrainian drones during the night. They said several interceptions happened over the Ryazan Oblast.
Diagilevo Air Base is a key military asset. It houses important aviation units and planes, including Tu-95MS bombers and Il-78 refueling aircraft.
This is not the first time the base has been targeted. In 2022, a drone attack damaged strategic bombers and killed or wounded several military personnel. Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate had claimed responsibility for that incident.
Ukrainian and Russian authorities have not made an official statement about the current attack.
