Russian authorities reported that several drones were intercepted in the Rostov Oblast area on December 29. The drones caused some damage to railway infrastructure.
The drone attacks happened around noon in Salsk and Ust-Donetsk areas. Acting Governor Yuri Slyusar said that air defense systems stopped “enemy” drones in several locations.
It is not clear what Ukraine‘s response was to the attack, as they have not commented on it yet. It is unusual for Ukraine to carry out drone attacks during the day, as most of their attacks happen at night or early morning.
Videos shared on Telegram showed a drone flying over Salsk and another being shot down near railway infrastructure.
The targets of these drone attacks are unclear, but it’s possible they were heading towards Grozny, the capital of Chechnya. Ust-Donetskii is about 270 km away from the warzone in southern Rostov Oblast.
At around 11:00 Kyiv time, Governor Slyusar announced that air defense forces had shot down a drone in the Ust-Donetskii district.
