Polish President Duda Speaks on Scholz‘s Call with Putin
Poland’s President Andrzej Duda said German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called Russian President Vladimir Putin to try and secure a ceasefire in Ukraine before Donald Trump took office.
Duda made this statement during an interview in Warsaw. He was quoted by Bloomberg news.
Scholz defended his call, saying it was meant to encourage peace talks with Ukraine. However, the move drew criticism from Ukraine and its allies.
Duda has historically been close to Trump. The U.S. president-elect promised to end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours. Duda wants people to know that Trump doesn’t like to lose.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is worried about any negotiations that might help Russia without giving Ukraine what it needs. He said this on November 15th.
Earlier, Trump announced he might appoint a Ukrainian peace envoy soon. This person would lead talks to end the war in Ukraine.
