Serbian Government Buys Artillery and Drones from Israel
The Serbian government is buying advanced artillery systems and drones from Israeli company Elbit Systems. This information was reported by the Haaretz daily on Wednesday.
According to the report, the deal is worth $335 million dollars. Elbit Systems also confirmed this on their website. They said they were awarded contracts to supply defense systems to an unnamed European country.
The contracts include the sale of PULS rocket launchers and rockets, as well as Hermes 900 drones equipped with advanced payloads. The deals are expected to be completed within three years and six months.
The PULS system can fire various types of munitions from a distance of up to 300 kilometers without needing to move the platform. It’s also cost-effective and adaptable to different platforms. Serbia has recently imported military-grade trucks that can carry rocket launchers from China.
Elbit Systems said their Hermes 900 drone is capable of performing a wide range of missions, including surveillance and reconnaissance. This purchase is seen as a significant step in modernizing the Serbian military.
Analysts say this move by Serbia comes in response to Croatia’s purchase of US-made HIMARS systems. The goal is to maintain a strategic balance in the region.
