**Georgian Opposition Leader Speaks Out Against Police Violence**
Elene Khoshtaria, a leader of the “Coalition for Change,” has spoken out against police violence after being released from a temporary detention facility. Khoshtaria was arrested and held in custody for several hours.
“I felt cynical violence from the police,” Khoshtaria said on TV Pirveli. “They ran a metal detector over my bare body. I didn’t even get to call my lawyer.”
Khoshtaria’s experience is not an isolated incident. She says that many Georgians are subjected to mistreatment and torture at the hands of the police.
“I’m experienced, but this is nothing new for me,” Khoshtaria said. “I can only imagine the fear of those who don’t have a voice.”
Khoshtaria was arrested along with two others, Nino Chkhartishvili and Davit Bolotashvili. She says that they were subjected to violence and humiliation at the hands of the police.
“They bent my arms back and tied them,” Khoshtaria said. “They forced me to strip naked in a humiliating procedure.”
Khoshtaria is calling on the international community to take action against the Georgian government for its use of violence against civilians.
“This system uses violence as a tool to intimidate others,” Khoshtaria said. “It’s time for us to speak out and demand justice.”
**Opposition Leader Believes Experience was Retaliation**
Khoshtaria believes that her experience was an act of retaliation by the police against her for her involvement in protests.
“They’re irritated by our protests, so they use violence as a tool to intimidate others,” Khoshtaria said.
The opposition leader says that she will not take legal action against the police officers involved but promises that they will be held accountable.
“I have no personal vendetta, but this system must be punished,” Khoshtaria said.
