**Tech Billionaire Elon Musk Supports US Exit from NATO and UN**
On March 2, tech billionaire Elon Musk agreed with a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the US should leave both NATO and the United Nations.
Musk responded to a post from a right-wing commentator who said “it’s time” for the US to exit these organizations. The news comes after several Republican lawmakers submitted a bill to withdraw the US from the UN, citing disagreements with the organization’s goals.
The US was one of several countries that voted against a recent UN resolution condemning Russia‘s invasion of Ukraine. Both NATO and the UN were founded by the US and other World War II victors to promote diplomacy and cooperation between nations.
Musk is currently leading an effort to cut government spending, including foreign aid. The US President has also criticized NATO countries for not contributing enough to the military alliance, and called for a spending target of 5% of GDP for all members.
Ukraine sees NATO membership as crucial to its safety, but the US President has suggested that Ukraine’s bid to join may have contributed to Russia’s aggression.
