The New York-based global entrepreneur organization Endeavor announced on October 31 that it has opened its first Ukrainian office, a sign of confidence in the country’s potential for business.
Endeavor is an organization that connects entrepreneurs, investors, and mentors to develop projects and grow. The network has 45 offices around the world that have supported over 2,800 entrepreneurs and created over 4.1 millions jobs.
The group plans to focus its efforts on high-growth technology companies that are currently in the scaling-up phase, and who are looking to expand internationally.
The tech sector is the fastest growing industry and the largest in terms of exports.
Mykhailo Fedorov is Ukraine’s minister for digital transformation. He described the project as “win-win” and said Endeavor would receive “smart, dedicated Ukrainians” in exchange for their presence in Ukraine.
Entrepreneurs in wartime Ukraine, no matter their sector, face Russian drone and missile strikes, economic instability and acute labor shortages caused by migration abroad and mobilization activities that keep workers from official employment.
Sviatoslav Sviatnenko is the managing director of Endeavor in Ukraine. He said the non-profit would help Ukrainian entrepreneurs overcome obstacles such as recruiting high-end talents, setting up abroad and assisting with the transition from a privately owned company to a publicly traded one, and preparing for mergers or acquisitions.
Sviatnenko said, “We will connect with the right people in order to help them find answers and grow their business faster.”
“It is no longer about six or more handshakes — there is only one.”
According to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Ukraine-Moldova American Enterprise Fund, both of which are supporting the project, the presence of Endeavor in Ukraine will boost local entrepreneurs’ support.
The project will be backed by a board of directors that includes well-versed Ukrainian entrepreneurs, including Farmak CEO Volodymyr Kstiuk and Reface Co-founder Dima Svets. This board is chaired by Vital Laptenok. He is also the co-founder of Ukrainian technology company Genesis, and general partner of Flyer One Ventures.
Laptenok said, “A strong economy with great leaders and success stories is exactly what the country needs while it is at war against Russia.”
In June, a signed security agreement between Poland and Ukraine laid out the possibility that Warsaw could shoot down Russian missiles headed toward Poland via Ukraine.
