**Serbia’s Energy Minister Seeks More Time for Russian Exit**
A picture of the Serbian Oil Industry (NIS) is shown above. The company has been in trouble since US sanctions were imposed.
The US government recently imposed sanctions on NIS, a company owned mostly by Russia. Serbia’s Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, says it’s in the best interest of both the US and Russia to find a solution for NIS. She believes that with the new Trump administration in power, finding a solution is more likely.
The deadline for Russia to fully withdraw its capital from NIS is February 25th. The Serbian government has been talking to both sides about this issue and plans to have more discussions soon. Minister Handanovic says they will ask for more time if the US is open to it.
The minister also confirmed that the sanctions are already affecting Serbia’s economy, with prices rising over the past few weeks. This is because the sanctions were announced before they took effect.
