Russia’s fishing industry is still selling a lot of fish to the European Union. They use Dutch ports, Norwegian ships, and local help to make billions of euros.
A Ukrainian diplomat in the Netherlands said Russia makes €7 billion from fish sales every year. €1.5 billion of that goes through the Netherlands. He wants stronger sanctions against Russia’s fishing industry.
The EU recently added new sanctions on Russia. This is because Russia invaded Ukraine. Some politicians think these sanctions should be stricter to hurt Russia’s economy and stop their war.
A Ukrainian advisor said existing sanctions are working, but some Russian industries are still not affected much. He mentioned that Russian ships were banned from Amsterdam ports before due to concerns about espionage. Now, a Russian company uses Norwegian ships with Russian crews to get into Dutch ports.
