In the resolution adopted the European Parliament, Salome Zurabishvili is asked to use her “constitutional rights” to resolve the Mikheil Saakashvili issue.
Anna Fotiga initiated the amendment, which 525 MEPs supported, 54 voted against, and 31 abstained.
The amendment reads: “[EP] reiterates the Georgian government‘s responsibility for the health and well-being of the former president and must be held accountable if anything happens to him. Invites the President of Georgia, to use her constitutional rights to resolve this issue.”
The same amendment calls for the Vice President of Commission/High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy (Ufasp) to be actively involved in securing Saakashvili’s release.
