**Turkey Offers Support to US in Ukraine Conflict**
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had a phone call with US President Donald Trump on March 16. This was their first conversation since Turkey’s new government started in January.
During the talk, Erdogan said that Turkey supports the efforts made by President Trump to stop Russia’s war against Ukraine. He hopes for a good outcome and thinks Trump can help resolve the conflict.
Turkey is trying to be a mediator between Russia and Ukraine. It has friendly relations with both countries and wants Ukraine to stay free. Turkey has helped negotiate peace talks, allowed grain exports from Ukraine, and said it might join in monitoring the ceasefire.
Recently, Turkey told Bloomberg that it might send troops to Ukraine as part of a team keeping the peace. This idea was brought up when Erdogan met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov earlier this month.
Moscow is not happy about NATO troops being involved in Ukraine, but Russia hasn’t said no to Turkey’s proposal yet.
