Estonia’s Foreign Minister Urges Europe to Send Troops to Ukraine
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna wants European countries to be ready to send military forces to Ukraine as part of a peace deal. He believes this is necessary to prevent Russia from starting another war.
Tsahkna says that the best way for Ukraine to feel safe is to join NATO, but this would be hard to do without the support of the United States. Until then, European countries should send troops to help protect Ukraine’s sovereignty.
Some countries, like Poland and the UK, have already been helping Ukraine with military aid. They may play a big role in any security guarantees that Europe offers.
Estonia wants other European countries to increase their defense spending and work together to keep Russia from being too aggressive. Tsahkna says that money is not a problem for Europe – it has plenty of resources to spend on defense.
The situation with Ukraine and Russia is getting more complicated. Ukrainian forces have been using drones to attack Russian ammunition depots, causing problems for Russia’s military.
