According to Estonian intelligence, the Russian ammunition crisis has worsened since Ukrainian forces carried out precision drone strikes against key depots. Six North Korean officers were killed, who were stationed alongside Russian troops. The attacks show Russia’s increasing dependence on North Korean supplies and Ukraine’s expanding capabilities.
According to ERR, the strikes by Ukraine on artillery ammunition stores will worsen the shortage of Russian munitions. Colonel Ants Kiviselg is the head of the Estonian Defense Forces Intelligence Center.
Ukraine continues its drone assaults deep into Russian territory, targeting ammunition depots, Kiviselg noted.
Recent Ukrainian Armed Forces have struck a central artillery and missile depot in the settlement Karachev, in the Bryansk Region. According to sources in the public domain, the depot contained ammunition from North Korea. This is the fourth artillery munitions depot to be destroyed by drone attacks.
Kiviselg stated that these attacks against Russian military depots will likely continue, causing the Russian ammunition shortage to worsen.
He also said a precise strike carried out by the Ukrainian Armed Forces killed six North Korean officers stationed in Russian positions within the combat zone on the 3rd October.
“Rumors about the possible arrival in Ukraine of North Korean units have appeared on Russian social media. the same time, Ukrainian officials stated that North Korean soldiers were accompanying ammunition deliveries. The colonel said that their role was to record defects and monitor ammunition use.
According to the information about the arrivals of North Korean officers it appears that Russia has become increasingly dependent on North Korean support for its military operations.
Estonian intelligence had earlier reported that Russia had suffered a significant loss of ammunition after a Ukrainian drone attack on a storage site in Toropets in the Tver Oblast in western Russia, on 18 September.
Kiviselg stated that the attack destroyed around 750,000 shells. This is equivalent to 2-3 months supply for Russian forces.
