** Backs Georgia’s Protesters**

The Estonian Parliament has made a statement in support of the people of Georgia. The statement was adopted January 22 with 59 in favor and nine against.

The Estonian government does not recognize the results of the “fraudulent” elections in Georgia. They also do not recognize the legitimacy of the Georgian parliament, government, or President Mikheil Kavelashvili. Instead, they recognize Salome as the country’s legitimate President.

**Support for Democratic Forces**

The Estonian Parliament supports democratic forces in Georgia who are demanding new elections. They condemn the repression against peaceful protesters and call for an end and persecution. They also demand the release of all political prisoners.

**Call for Sanctions**

The Riigikogu calls on other national parliaments to condemn the regime’s violence against citizens. They also ask EU and European member states to sanction involved in the repression, to restrict communication with the government until free and fair elections are held, and to support Georgia’s civil society and press.
