EU Gives Ukraine 26.5 Million Dollars for NGOs
The EU Ambassador to Ukraine, Katarina Mathernova, announced that the European Union will give 25 million euros (26.5 million dollars) to Ukrainian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and civil society groups.
This money will be used to help these groups with their work related to Ukraine’s goal of joining the EU. The funding was announced at a meeting in Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital city. There are two parts to this funding: 15 million euros for small NGOs across Ukraine over three years, and 10 million euros for civil society work on EU integration.
Mathernova said that Ukrainian civil society is strong and resilient despite Russia‘s aggression. She is proud of the EU’s support for these groups and their critical work in helping Ukraine win its war against Russia and achieve a European future.
The EU has increased its funding for civil society organizations in Ukraine from 21 million dollars to 63.5 million dollars this year. This support comes as Ukraine applies for EU membership after being attacked by Russia. In December, the EU agreed to start accession talks with Ukraine, which is an important step towards joining the EU.
The EU Ambassador had previously said that 2030 could be a realistic date for Ukraine to join the European Union.
