**Ukraine Gets €86 Million to Protect Power Grid from Drones**
The European Investment Bank (EIB) has given Ukraine’s energy company, Ukrenergo, €86 million. This money will be used to build a system to protect key power stations from drones.
Russia has been attacking residential areas in Ukraine with drones and missiles every night. They also target the country‘s electricity infrastructure. Ukrainian officials say that these attacks are meant to scare civilians and damage homes.
Ukrenergo says it is confident that previous plans to protect substation equipment have worked well so far. The company’s Acting CEO, Oleksii Brekht, said: “We are very grateful for our partners’ help. Protecting key equipment at our substations is crucial in the face of Russian attacks on the energy system.”
Ukrenergo is working on building the protection system. They say that this will make Ukraine’s power grid more resilient and reduce the risk of power outages.
The EIB has given Ukrenergo a total of €136 million since the war started. The bank’s Vice President, Teresa Czerwinska, said: “By supporting Ukrenergo in building anti–drone shelters, we can ensure a stable electricity supply across Ukraine and meet the needs of both civilians and businesses.”
