**EU to Discuss Funding Cutoff for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty**
European Union foreign ministers are set to discuss the termination of US funding for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) on March 17. This comes after US President Donald Trump‘s executive order to eliminate the US Agency for Global Media, which oversees RFE/RL and Voice of America.
**US Funding Cut Off**
As a result of Trump’s decision, the grant that funded RFE/RL has been terminated. The Czech Foreign Minister, Jan Lipavsky, emphasized the importance of RFE/RL and VoA’s work, calling them a “beacon” for people living in authoritarian countries.
**EU Considers Options to Help**
The EU is considering options to help media organizations like RFE/RL after the US funding cutoff. Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski confirmed that the EU is brainstorming ways to support these institutions.
**Trump’s Criticism of Media Organizations**
The Trump administration has previously cut thousands of federally-funded positions, including those supporting Ukraine. The administration has also terminated employment for top officials from the US Agency for International Development after they attempted to prevent representatives from Elon Musk’s DOGE from accessing restricted areas.
