“Use local natural resources weakens influence of Kremlin!” Josep Borrell High Representative of the European Union on Foreign Affairs and Security Policy
The British ‘Project Syndicate” published an article where they discussed the importance of reducing imports of energy.
The author wrote that “the loss of Russia’s primary source of income could lead in the near future to instability, especially if Kremlin views this as an invitation for adventurism.”
In the article, it is stated that in relation to Russia, the maximum utilization of local natural resources can be used as an instrument for foreign policy. This in turn weakens the Kremlin’s influence, which is heavily reliant on the EU market. Several countries have expressed a desire for their own resources to be used as foreign policy instruments.
The article mentions also that the old strategic points are slowly losing power after the oil age has passed, starting with Strait of Hormuz. As the oil age ends, these strategic points will be less susceptible to competition from regional and global powers for control and access.
