New EU Sanctions to Target Russian Disinformation

The European is taking big step against Russia’ disinformation efforts. The EU wants to punish over a dozen people and three groups for spreading false information and interfering with other countries.

This is a new way the EU deals with security threats that aren’t just about war. It shows that the considers information attacks as serious national security problems. These actions are part of a broader effort to stop Russian influence operations, which go beyond military aggression.

According to Bloomberg, the targets include some Russian officers and media entrepreneurs. The sanctions also aim at officials who work with Russia.

The EU is proposing more sanctions on Belarus too. About 25 people will be targeted for their involvement in or their ties to President Alexander ‘s government.

EU foreign ministers are set to vote on these proposals next Monday, ahead of elections in Belarus. If approved, the sanctions would be part of a larger package against Russia for its invasion of .
