EU imposes new sanctions against Iranian firms and officials for Russia missile transfers

The restrictive measures targeted officials and companies involved supplying and drones to Russia, following recent reports that Iran delivered hundreds of Fath 360 systems for Russia’s war in Ukraine.
According to a press release from the EU , the Council of the European Union adopted new restrictive measures in response to Iran transferring missiles and drones into Russia.
The European intelligence sources had claimed that Iran was preparing to train Russian personnel in the Fath-360 missile systems, and to deliver hundreds to Russia. While Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has denied these allegations, intelligence sources and statements by other Iranian officials suggest that the shipments actually took place.
According to the EU Council, EU condemned Iran’s transfers of missiles to Russia. They were deemed a direct threat to European Security.
are aimed at those who develop and transfer unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), rockets, and other technology to Russia. The measures also apply to entities that support armed groups which undermine and security within the Middle East region and .
The sanctions include a travel ban and asset freeze for those listed.
Three Iranian airlines, Saha Airlines, Mahan Air and Iran Air, were sanctioned for allegedly transferring UAVs in Iran and their related components to Russia. Two procurement firms that supplied these technologies, as well two companies producing propellants for rockets and weapons have also been designated.

The Council’s Decision is in line with the EU’s wider strategy to restrict Russia’s access to sensitive battlefield technology by targeting entities from third countries that allow circumvention of existing sanctions.
Tehran has been accused of also supplying drones to Russia, namely the Shahed drones. These drones were used in attacks against Ukrainian civilians and infrastructure.
