** Proposed Sanctions on Chinese Firms**

The European Union has proposed a new set of sanctions targeting over 50 individuals and 30 entities. The main goal is to stop from helping Russia develop military technology in Ukraine.

**What are the sanctions about?**

These sanctions aim to freeze assets and prevent travel more than 50 people and nearly 30 groups, including Chinese firms that allegedly help companies make attack drones. This would be the EU’s 15th set of sanctions since Russia invaded Ukraine.

**Why is involved?**

China has said it’s not taking sides in the conflict and doesn’ supply weapons to either side. But the EU says some Chinese companies are helping Russia develop military technology, including engines for attack drones.

**What else is included in the proposal?**

The proposed sanctions also include:

* Targeting Chinese firms that work on drone technology
* Sanctioning a -based company that broke EU trade rules
* Adding North Korean officials who helped Russia with troops and supplies
* Banning over 45 Russian tankers from using European ports to reduce Moscow’s oil revenue

**What’s next?**

These sanctions need approval from all EU member states. The proposal also comes as foreign ministers from the Group of Seven are set to agree on “appropriate measures” against countries that support Russia’s war effort.
