The EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia released a statement in response to the shooting of a Georgian near the village Kirbali.
The EU Monitoring Mission calls on all parties to exercise restraint, and to take any necessary measures to prevent further escalation.
“The EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia confirms that a tragic incident occurred near the South Ossetian Administrative Boundary Line. A Georgian citizen’s life was tragically lost. We send our deepest condolences and love to the family of the deceased.
We condemn the use of violence in any form and express our deepest concern about the shooting incident that resulted in death. To maintain peace, stability, and security in the region, it is essential to prevent such incidents.
We urge all parties to exercise restraint, and to take any necessary measures to prevent further escalation. We are closely monitoring the situation and are working to diffuse tensions. This includes using the EUMM-managed Hotline extensively to exchange information regarding the shooting”, according to the statement.
