Georgia will host the World Tourism Day for the first ever on September 27, 2024. Euronews, a leading European broadcaster, covered Georgia’s participation in this global event.
Representatives from various international media including Forbes, Bloomberg Euronews and Conde Nast Traveler visited Georgia. The journalists also discovered the tourism potential of Georgia as they covered the event.
Lottie Limb, journalist at Euronews, shares her experience in Georgia with readers.
“I first sense the deep connection to the land in the basement of Georgian National Museum, Tbilisi. Gold burial items gleaming in the darkness.
“A lion sculpture, with its sun-like face, is believed to accompany the dead into the Afterlife. It gleams next to a beaded necklace adorned with gold globules. A ring made of amethyst inlaid with gold pieces is displayed across the room. The skill with which it was done still baffles experts.
“From archaeology, to the ancient practice Qvevri Wine-making, where clay vessels with grapes are planted on the “belly” of the earth – the Georgians’ strong belief in their’motherland is evident.
“I was fortunate to visit late September and see many more national jewels, and drink many, many glass of wine,” the writer says.
The article also lists specific wineries and places where Georgian wine is worth tasting.
The journalist highlights the well-known Georgian dishes and cuisine, claiming “There’s a characteristically generous aspect to the cuisine: the almost indecently tasty ‘khachapuri (cheese filled bread), the richness and fullness of the ‘ajapsandali vegetable stew’ and the ‘khinkali” dumplings.”
The article concludes with Limb stating that her first visit to Georgia, which lasted a week, has made her eager to return. “To soak up more of Georgia’s earthly culture and its countless churches.” To seek out new experiences, I’m now looking at Tbilisi’s huge botanic gardens, the bears and birds of Tusheti and the night train between Tbilisi and Batumi.
