According to Serhii Zighurets of the Defense Experts Association, despite signs of strain the frontline is not collapsing in Ukraine. He stressed the importance of maintaining a strong defense to prevent Russian advances.
According to Espreso, Serhii Zighurets is the director of Defense Express, an information and consulting firm.
Over the past year, Russia has focused on capturing Ukraine-controlled areas in Donetsk Oblast. Major attacks have been repeated near Pokrovsk and Selydove as well as other towns. Russia uses frontal assault tactics to incur heavy losses, but continues to make progress.
“We have 800 km of front line, with nine hotspots out of 11. The front is not crumbling, although there are withdrawals in certain areas that are particularly difficult. The question is, how can we maintain this thin and tense line to prevent an enemy breakthrough? Once they break through it will be hard to stop them,” noted the expert.
According to him the Russian occupiers are operating on the edge of their logistical abilities, deploying reserves along the entire front in order to stop the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Zghurets also expressed his confidence that the rate at which the Russian army replenishes its reserves is not enough to achieve breakthroughs in operations.
The expert commented on the latest reports that suggest that after capturing Pokrovsk the Russians would attempt to break through in the city Dnipro. He stated that they will have to pass through a number of areas that can be destroyed before they reach Pokrovsk.
Zghurets also added that Pokrovsk was well fortified but this does not mean its defense will be strong.
To ensure defense, the city Pokrovsk, Donetsk Oblast, will be completely closed for entry and departure. According to UNIAN, the head of Pokrovsk Military Administration Serhii dobriak announced this.
“The construction of the defense has been going on since 2022. There is a city defense plan. According to the plan, Ukrainian forces have already entered the city. We urge everyone to evacuate the city because all entry and exit points from streets and neighborhoods will be blocked. He said that the city’s outskirts were already blocked.
The Ukrainian official said that the Russians were already 6.7 km from the outermost part of Pokrovsk. In the meantime, 11900 residents, including 55 kids, remain in Pokrovsk.
