The analyst, Ivan Tymochko, believes that the operation had a much deeper impact than just capturing prisoners or gaining leverage in negotiations. He says it showed that Russia’s territorial defenses are not as strong as they appeared and that the Russian army is not unlimited.

Tymochko also thinks that the fighting in Kursk Oblast has undermined the Russian narrative of “everything going according to plan” by the Kremlin. The operation has forced Putin into a justification, which will have an impact on future political negotiations.
