US President-elect Donald Trump’s Relationship with Vladimir Putin May Change.
Military analyst Oleksandr Kovalenko believes that US President-elect Donald Trump will eventually be disappointed with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. This could lead to a more forceful approach from the US in supporting Ukraine, according to NV reports.
After his election victory, there were reports of a phone call between Trump and Putin. In this conversation, Trump advised Putin not to escalate the war in Ukraine. However, Russia launched several attacks on Ukraine soon after, including a large-scale drone strike.
Kovalenko thinks that in the future, Trump may focus more on supporting Ukraine with military aid. This could include sending more weapons and other supplies to help the country defend itself.
“We are ready for a defensive military strategy,” Kovalenko said. “But this means we won’t be able to take back any territory for another year. Instead, we might continue to lose ground.”
The analyst also warned that if Ukraine doesn’t make progress, society in 2025 could become demoralized. However, if Trump becomes disillusioned with Putin soon, he may implement a “Plan B” to support Ukraine more strongly.
In this scenario, Ukrainian forces could shift from defending themselves to taking the initiative and pushing back against Russian forces next year. This could happen because Russia’s military is exhausted and struggling.
