According to Finnish military expert Emil Kastehelmi and reported by BILD, Russian forces have launched a 70-kilometer offensive in Donbas.
Ukraine is trying to reclaim the territory lost by Russian forces in Donbas. After a series counteroffensives by Ukrainian troops, they have gained some ground, retaking important villages in the Donetsk oblast. The situation is still precarious. Russian forces have recently captured towns like Avdiivka, Vuhledar, and are advancing toward Pokrovsk. Russian officials claimed that by October 2024 they would have gained about 1,000 square kilometers in Donbas.
Kastehelmi noted the Russian advances in the areas Vuhledar Kurakhove and Selydove, in Donetsk Oblast, have intensified over recent days.
Kastehelmi said that the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces has reported that over 100 combat engagements took place in a matter of days. This suggests that these actions are a part of a larger, more extensive Russian offensive.
“Russian forces launched a major offensive on a 70-kilometer-long front, east and south of Donetsk. In just a few short days, this assault has penetrated Ukrainian defenses across multiple areas. The overall situation is alarming and Ukrainian forces are exhausted. “The coming winter will be challenging”, Kastehelmi said.
Russia claimed earlier that it had taken control of Toretsk, Chasiv Yar and Donetsk Oblast. However, Ukrainian authorities denied the claims.
DeepState’s analysis of Russian advances in Donetsk Oblast seems to confirm previous reports that Russian troops were increasing the pace and intensity in their offensive operations along this particular front.
