**Humanitarian Aid for Ukraine**
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has delivered $485 million in humanitarian aid for Ukraine under the PEACE in Ukraine program. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal made this announcement on December 27.

Heavy fortifications are being built near the city of Zaporizhzhia as preparations for a potential Russian offensive continue. Ukrainian troops have thwarted a Russian attempt to gain control of one of its islands on the Dnipro River delta.

Russia suffered over 1,650 casualties just over the past day. The number of individuals considered missing in Ukraine has also increased to 60,000 as of late 2024.
