**Slovak MPs Visit Moscow for Talks on Russian Gas Supplies**
A group of Slovak parliamentarians has traveled to Moscow for talks with Russian government officials. The visit aims to discuss the continuation of Russian gas supplies and other issues.
The delegation, led by Andrej Danko, chair of the far-right Slovak National Party, and Tibor Gaspar, a member of Prime Minister Robert Fico’s Smer party, departed on January 12.
Fico had met with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin just weeks ago. The visit comes as tensions rise between Slovakia and Ukraine over gas supplies.
Danko said that Poland refused to allow their flight to enter its airspace, forcing them to reroute via Czechia and Germany. He expressed surprise at this decision, but accepted it as a reality.
The Slovak delegates will meet with representatives from the Russian State Duma and other officials. They aim to find out if Russia‘s Gazprom can continue to supply gas to Slovakia despite Ukraine’s halt of Russian gas transit through its territory.
Slovakia has faced criticism for its reliance on Russian gas, with EU attempts to reduce dependence on Russian fossil fuels after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The delegation is expected to return to Slovakia on January 15.
