**Parliament Approves Law Prohibiting Broadcasters from Receiving Funding Abroad**
The Parliament’s Sectoral Economy and Economic Policy Committee has supported a new law that prohibits broadcasters in Georgia from receiving funding from abroad. This law is expected to be approved by the Parliament at its plenary session this week.
**What Does the Law Say?**
The new law will ban broadcasters from getting money or other benefits from foreign powers for their activities, including social advertisements. It also means that foreign powers cannot pay for specific programs or services from broadcasters, except for commercial advertising and product placement.
**Who is Considered a “Foreign Power”?**
According to the law, a “foreign power” includes:
* A government system of a foreign state
* A person who is not a citizen of Georgia
* A company that was set up under laws other than those of Georgia
* Any organization or group based on international law.
