Elections were held on October 26 in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara. The elections were for the region’s 21-member legislative assembly, which is known as the Supreme Council.
Five parties received enough votes to be part of the assembly. They are: Coalition for Change (8.4%), Unity-UNM (14.26%), Strong Georgia (6.32%), Gakharia-For Georgia (8.63%), and Georgian Dream (57.45%).
The biggest winner was Georgian Dream, which got 13 seats in the assembly. Other winners included Unity-UNM with 4 seats, Gakharia-For Georgia with 2 seats, and Coalition for Change with 1 seat.
Some members of the assembly are: Davit Gabaidze from Georgian Dream, Elguja Bagrationi from Unity-UNM, and Genadi Tebidze from Strong Georgia. The rest of the assembly members were also elected from these parties.
However, not everyone is happy with the results. There have been protests in Batumi, the capital of Adjara, against what protesters call rigged elections. Students at the local university have also been protesting for five nights.
