**Finland to Provide Ukraine with $691 Million in Military Equipment**
On February 26, Finland announced that it will provide Ukraine with 660 million euros (approximately $691 million) in military equipment. This move marks a shift in how the country delivers weaponry and equipment to Ukraine.
In the past, Finland has donated surplus stocks to Ukraine. However, under this new framework, the country will order new military products from domestic defense companies to be sent to Ukraine. The announcement did not provide details on what kind of equipment or weaponry will be provided, but stated that it will focus on meeting Ukraine’s critical needs.
**A New Approach to Supporting Ukraine**
The new support program aims to play a central role in supporting Ukraine by using Finnish companies and expertise. This measure is expected to strengthen both Ukraine’s chances for a just peace and the long-term resilience of Finland’s security industry and supply chain.
**Europe’s Role in Supporting Ukraine**
This announcement comes amid increased scrutiny surrounding Europe’s role in supporting Ukraine. European leaders have scrambled to deliver military support to Ukraine as the U.S., under the Trump administration, seeks to make a peace deal with Moscow. However, EU officials fear that Europe is being shut out of the peace process altogether.
**Finland’s Previous Support for Ukraine**
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion, Finland has provided Ukraine with 2.5 billion euros (approximately $2.6 billion) in defense aid. On February 24, Nordic countries Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland announced additional aid funding for Ukraine, with Finland providing 4.5 million euros ($4.7 million) through the Partnership Fund for a Resilient Ukraine (PFRU) for 2025-2027 to support Ukraine’s resilience and stability.
