While the Russian leadership denies targeting civilians, Ukrainian authorities and international organizations classify these strikes as war crimes by the Russian Federation, emphasizing their deliberate nature. According to the Ukrainian Air Force‘s report, Russian forces attacked Ukraine overnight on 16th October with 136 strike UAVs. Ukraine’s air defense destroyed 50 drones and 60 drones lost their location. As of 7:30 am, over 20 drones were still in Ukrainian airspace. Russia‘s military used an S-300/400 surface to air guided missile from occupied Donetsk Territory and Chernihiv Oblast using a Kh59 guided air missile. The Ukrainian Air Force reported the assault involved 17 Drones, seven S300/400 missiles that targeted Mykolaiv Oblast and two Kh59 guided air-to surface missiles that were aimed at Chernihiv oblast and Sumy oblast.
