**Russia and Ukraine Trade Blows**
A Ukrainian strike in the western Kursk region of Russia has left five people dead, according to Russian officials. The attack also injured nine others who were taken to hospital.
The strike occurred on Friday at 15:30 local time (12:30 GMT) in the town of Rylsk, about 25km from the Ukrainian border. A cultural centre, a fitness complex, a school, and homes were damaged in the attack.
**Kyiv Hit Again**
Earlier, Ukrainian officials reported that Moscow had launched a fresh missile attack on Kyiv, damaging several buildings hosting diplomatic missions. The Ukrainian capital was also hit by a wave of drones and missiles overnight, with most shot down.
At least one person was killed and nine others were injured in the strike. It is unclear whether the building housing the embassies was directly targeted.
**Eyewitness Accounts**
Residents of Kyiv shared their experiences on social media, including Oksana who said she survived a blast that destroyed her apartment. “I don’t understand how I survived,” she said.
A local journalist at the scene told the BBC that one of the buildings nearby had been used by the Ukrainian Security Service, and was likely to have been the target of the strikes.
**Russia Denies Targeting Embassies**
The Russian defence ministry said missiles were launched at an SBU “command post” in response to a strike on a chemical plant in Russia’s Rostov Region. However, there is speculation that Friday’s attack could be linked to the killing of a Russian general earlier this week.
**Concerns Over Ballistic Missiles**
There are concerns in Ukraine that Russia could use intermediate-range ballistic missiles to hit Kyiv. Moscow test-fired such a missile on the central city of Dnipro earlier this month, and Ukrainian authorities issued an air alert on Friday morning before it was called off as a false alarm.
