**Russian Soldiers Execute 5 Ukrainian Prisoners**
A war crime has been committed by Russian soldiers in Ukraine. On November 24, five Ukrainian prisoners were killed near the village of Novdarivka in Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
The execution is part of a larger pattern of Russian forces killing Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs). This is against international law and is considered a serious crime.
Ukraine’s Office of the Prosecutor General has started an investigation into the killing. They are looking at it as a possible violation of war laws combined with intentional murder.
**Investigation Underway**
Law enforcement officials have identified the Russian military unit involved in the execution. They are now investigating the soldiers who took part in the crime. Video evidence of the execution has also been obtained.
The prosecution says that killing prisoners of war is a severe breach of international law, specifically the Geneva Conventions. This makes it a significant international crime.
**Pattern of War Crimes**
This incident follows other reports of Russian forces killing Ukrainian POWs. Just last month, five Ukrainian prisoners were executed on the Pokrovsk front in Donetsk Oblast.
There have been numerous investigations into these war crimes, with 53 cases currently being looked at by Ukraine’s Office of the Prosecutor General. These cases involve the execution of 177 Ukrainian defenders.
**Ukraine’s Response**
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion began in February 2022, Ukraine has launched nearly 170,000 investigations into war crimes and national security violations.
