On October 1, troops shot and killed five captured Ukrainian soldiers near the town of Vuhledar in . This was announced by the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office on November 22.

**Investigation Launched**

investigation into the killings has been launched by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU). According to the SBU, Russian troops captured the five Ukrainian soldiers on October 1 as they retreated from their positions near Vuhledar. The soldiers were unarmed and did not pose a threat.

The prosecutors said that the killed one of the soldiers in a forest area and took four others to the road at gunpoint, where they shot them dead.

**More Killings Reported**

This is not the first report of Russian troops killing Ukrainian POWs in Donetsk Oblast. In mid-November, two Ukrainian soldiers were shot dead by Russian troops in the Pokrovsk district. The prosecutors said that the soldiers were stripped naked and killed on the spot.

**Investigations Continue**

are currently investigating 53 criminal proceedings related to the executions of 177 Ukrainian soldiers. In alone, there were 37 proceedings into the executions of 109 Ukrainian soldiers.
