“We demand investigation immediately into the comments made yesterday, by the current chairman of the ,” Kakhaber . Kemoklidze a member of ‘‘, the , responded to Irakli Kobakhidze’s statement about the former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakaria and the National Movement.
“We would like a response to yesterday’s interview conducted with the Chairman of the ruling party.
“We certainly expected that the establishment by Giorgi of a new political party would cause anxiety for both sides of the political spectrum. However, the actual size and form of the party exceeded all expectations.
“Yesterday, we heard inadequate statements from the current leader of the ruling party. He insulted Georgians, attacked the security of the nation, and ignored the voters.
“What we said initially has been proven without any further effort from our side – There is no longer a’red line’ for the current ruling party leadership, as they are willing to disregard the state interests for the sake of maintaining their power.
“Yesterday the chairman of the ruling, I repeat, not the government or security service, nor the law enforcement agencies but Irakli Kobakhidze, accused the Prime Minister of the time, current policemen and soldier of acting against state and of plotting an coup, based upon some information which, according to him, was provided by United National Movement.
“Kobakhidze stated yesterday that he had been hiding for the past four months from the Georgians, including Georgian Dream Voters, that a country-wide coup was planned, involving the Prime Minister, the police, and soldiers who are still serving in ‘s defence and police forces.
“We believe that ignoring such absurd statements will further harm the state’s interests and the reputation of the country on the international stage. We demand that an investigation be launched into the comments made yesterday by the current leader of the ruling party.
“It’s ridiculous that the current leadership of ruling party has said that they will wait for our actions and make an assessment on the basis of that. It turned out that after our political moves they saw a threat to their power and began inventing these stories. The continuation of the story has already been announced. This is a very telling statement.
The fear of our party and its future has brought them together, and they have become so similar, that the moral line between them is gone.
“Despite everything, we have a plan that we will stick to.”
“We announced it on the first day. We will not now gossip about the past, or unite against anyone.
Kakhaber Kemoklidze stated, “We will present our plan and program as soon as possible and begin direct communication with the people – starting from the Adjara Region.”
Irakli Kobakhidze told Rustavi that yesterday, Irakli Kobakhidze the chairman for the Georgian Dream had said that the opposition party planned to form an alternate government before Nika Melia was arrested, the leader of the United National Movement. Kobakhidze said that the ruling party knew about this information, but did not share it with the former because they had suspicions against him.
Gakharia resigned from his position as PM on 18 February due to disagreements about the arrest of Nika Meelia. The former PM said that he would not leave politics after his resignation. He recently founded a new political group called ‘For Georgia’.
